PTSG:  Policies & Information

  1. What is the PTSG?
The Presentation Technologies & Services Group is part of UCit Instructional & Research Computing. We assist the UC community plan and produce technically complex presentations that require an in-depth knowledge of digital media technologies.
  2. What sorts of things does the PTSG do?
Our activities fall into a few broad categories:  webcasting, videoconferencing,  and audio-visual production.
  3. Where are the PTSG offices?
The main office is in Mary Emery Hall 3140B (in the CCM Village). Some personnel are located in the FTRC in Room 400 Zimmer Hall.
  4. What are the PTSG hours?
Because of the "event"-driven nature of the PTSG, PTSG personnel might be found on campus seven days a week from early in the morning until late at night. Our office hours, though, are 9 am - 5 pm Monday through Friday
  5. Is the PTSG the same thing as the FTRC?
No - though we're closely related by both being part of Instructional & Research Computing. As stated on their web site, the FTRC "...has been established to provide faculty assistance with using technology in the classroom. The FTRC provides faculty the technological tools to enhance their teaching." The FTRC is a resource to assist faculty members in learning to use technology themselves. The PTSG, on the other hand, acts as a production resource. If you are a faculty member and want to learn how to use some interesting technology in your teaching or research, the FTRC is where you go to learn how to use it. If the project is too involved and you have a funding source, PTSG can produce it for you.
  6. Is the PTSG the same thing as ECSS (Electronic Classroom Support Services)?
No - though, again, both areas are part of Instructional & Research Computing. ECSS is responsible for the installation and upkeep of the many electronic classrooms around campus. Speciifically, they:
    • Provide support to electronic classrooms users
    • Offer training in the use of Electronic Classroom Equipment
    • Provide technical support on an emergency basis
    • Maintain Electronic Classroom computer systems
    • Provide network support
    • Deliver multimedia equipment to non-equipped classrooms
    • Provide Exam Grading Services
    • Provide Analog and Digital Satellite Services

    Call ECSS at 556-1977.

  7. Will the PTSG create my PowerPoint presentation for me?
No. We can give you advice about the effective use of PowerPoint - and sometimes that advice is not to use PowerPoint at all - but we don't produce standalone PowerPoint presentations.
